Magnum P.I. was a popular television series that aired on CBS from 1980 until 1988. The series followed the adventures of Thomas Magnum (Tom Selleck), who resigned from the U.S. Navy and became a private investigator in Hawaii. Magnum lives in the 'guest house' of a posh beach front estate, known as Robin's Nest, at the invitation of its owner, Robin Masters, the celebrated but never seen author of several dozen lurid novels.
Magnum's living arrangements, and use of Robin Master’s Ferrari 308, are quid pro quo for his claimed expertise in security; the pilot suggests he also did Robin Masters a favor of some kind.
