Hobby Master 1:48 Air Power Series Diecast Model
Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc – PZ865 "The Last of the Many!", 1944
1:48 Scale. Length: 8". Wingspan: 10"
Limited production of approximately 800 models worldwide
Hurricane IIC PZ865 was completed in July 1944 as the last of 14533 Hurricanes to be built and given the inscription “The Last of the Many” that it wore for several years. It was kept by Hawker for trial work and in 1950 was assigned a civil registration of G-AMAU. In 1972 PZ865 was given to the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby where it was refurbished and flies as 1944 HW840 / EG-S piloted by Canadian Flt J. Whalen DFC of the SEA Command.
The Hawker Hurricane was a British single-engine fighter aircraft and the first monoplane fighter used by the Royal Air Force. First flown on November 6 1935, the Hurricane entered operational service with the RAF in December 1937. Together with the Spitfire, the Hurricane was essential in enabling the RAF to win the Battle of Britain in 1940, accounting for the majority of the RAF's air victories. The Hurricane was also adapted for use as a fighter-bomber, night-fighter / intruder and for ground support. A variant known as the Sea Hurricane had modifications which enabled operations from ships. More than 14,000 Hurricanes were built by the end of 1944 (including at least 800 converted to Sea Hurricane and 1,400 built in Canada). The Hurricane was built by, or exported to, several other countries during the war and used by their air forces.
