Hobby Master 1:72 Air Power Series Diecast Model
Grumman F-14A Tomcat – VF-32 “Swordsmen”, U.S. Navy, USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67), Gulf of Sidra, January 4, 1989 “MiG-23 Killer”
1:72 Scale. Length: 10.5". Wingspan: 10.6” (spread)
Libya declared the Gulf of Sidra as territorial waters but the U.S. disputed this and in 1981 Libya lost two jet fighters. On January 4, 1989 there was a second Gulf of Sidra incident when two Libyan MiG-23s headed towards the USS Kennedy battle group. One F-14 from VF-14 and one from VF-32 turned toward the MiGs as a warning. As the opposing forces advanced the F-14s broke off several times to tell the MiGs they didn’t want to engage but the MiG-23s continued and were destroyed.
