On April 27, 2020 the USS Nimitz along with VFA-94 Mighty Shrikes as well as other squadrons left for what would become the longest deployment since the Vietnam War; 321 days. During the deployment they sailed the Western Pacific North Arabian Sea and Arabian Gulf before returning home in February 2021. In August 2015 VFA-94 flew their last flight in their F/A-18C aircraft and began to transition to the two-seat F/A18F. One of the VFA-94 aircraft was F/A-18F 168929 msn F-275 that became the CAG aircraft.
The McDonnell Douglas Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet is a twin-engine multi-role carrier-based aircraft. The “E” variant is single-seater while the “F” variant is a tandem-seat configuration. The E is a much larger, more advanced and more capable variant of the F/A-18C. The Super Hornet variant can carry a larger array of weapons as well as more of them and is capable of returning to the carrier while still carrying unspent munitions. The first flight of the F/A-18E took place in 1995 with delivery to the U.S. Navy starting in 1999.
