The Northrop Grumman E-2 Hawkeye is a twin-turboprop airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft operated by the US Navy and the armed forces of several other countries. Developed in the late 1950s as a replacement for E-1 Tracer, the E-2 was first flown on October 21, 1960 and entered operational service in 1964. Variants of the E-2 have been in production since the 1960s, giving it the longest production run of any carrier-based aircraft.
