In 2019 for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day, three squadrons of the 48th Fighter Wing “Statue of Liberty Wing” at RAF Lakenheath in England each painted one F-15 with the markings of their WW II P-47s. The 492nd F-15E had its vertical stabilizer rudders and Vulcan cannon opening painted red while the 493rd F-15C was blue and the 494th F-15E was yellow. All three aircraft had D-Day invasion stripes on the wings and around the fuselage as well as red checker board graphics around the nose.
