In 1989 Eglin AFB became home to the 58th TFS “Gorillas” and in 1991 they were called upon to participate in “Operation Desert Shield” and “Operation Desert Storm”. On January 19, 1991 F-15C 85-0114 and his wingman were advised by an E-3 that hostiles were close. Capt. Cesar Rodriguez rolled towards the targets and engaged one of the MiG-29 Fulcrums and while trying to out-maneuver the F-15C the MiG-29 flew into the ground. On January 26, 1991 F-15C Eagle 85-0114 destroyed a MiG-23.
