Formed in 1917 as the 90th Aero Squadron at Kelly Field in Texas and after 16 name changes they became the 90th FS “Dicemen,” with their squadron emblem a lucky 7 “Pair O’ Dice”. The 90th FS is the fourth oldest fighter squadron in the USAF. The 90th FS is part the 3rd Wing and Air Force Reserve Command 477th Fighter Group. Elmendorf replaced their F-15 Strike Eagles with 40 F-22s, 20 for the 90th FS and 20 for the 525th FS. F-22 09-4190 was produced in 2009 as c/n 645-4190.
The Lockheed Martin/ Boeing F-22 Raptor is a single seat, twin-engine fighter aircraft that uses stealth technology. It was designed as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities which include ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence roles. It is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% composite material, 16% aluminum and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All of these components contribute to the Raptor being a lightweight, extremely maneuverable extremely fast aircraft. The F-22 Raptor was first flown in September, 1997. The first production F-22 was delivered to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, on January 14, 2003.
