The Harrier GR.7 made its maiden flight in 1990. In 2004 seven Harriers from 1 Squadron and 4 Squadron were given a temporary arctic white and grey winter camouflage paint scheme so they could participate in “Exercise Snow Falcon” beginning January 23 and taking place at Bardufoss Norway. One of the aircraft from 1 Squadron was ZG531 built in 1991. This GR-7 was in service until 2010 and eventually made its way to the bone yard at Davis-Monthan AFB in 2018.
The first Harrier II was the AV-8B. In 1984 development of the AV-8B(NA) Night Attack Harriet II began with the addition of a NAVFLIR (Navigation Forward-Looking Infrared) camera in the nose along with night vision goggles. New multi-function displays were added as well as an improved heads-up display, color CRT display, and complete heads-down capability. This Harrier version also received additional counter-measure dispensers and Rolls-Royce Pegasus 11-61 vectored thrust turbofan engine.
