1:72 Scale. Length: 6". Wingspan: 8.25"
U.S. Navy Bombing Squadron 85 (VB-85) operated from the USS Shangri-La between April and September 1945. The white lightning bolt on the tail and white numbers on the tail and engine cowling made these aircraft very recognizable in 1945. Air Group 85’s first operation took place at Okinawa and then moved to attacks on mainland Japan.
The Curtiss SB2C Helldiver was a carrier-based dive-bomber aircraft produced for the U.S Navy during World War II. It was developed as a replacement for the SBD Dauntless. The SB2C was first flown on December 18, 1940 but, because of delays due to design changes, it did not make its combat debut until November 11, 1943. In spite of its problems the aircraft was flown through the last two years of the war in the Pacific with a fine combat record. Curtiss built a total of 7,140 SB2Cs in several variants. It remained in active service with the U.S. Navy until 1947 and naval reserve units until 1950.
