In 1892, the Simmons Company of Kenosha, Wisconsin burned to the ground, despite the best efforts of the local volunteer firefighters to save the structure. A wagon maker at the time, Peter Pirsch vowed that firefighters would be better equipped in the future. Three years later, in 1895, the first horse drawn hose cart for Kenosha rolled off the assembly line. Due to its proximity to the manufacturing plant, Waukesha, and other midwestern cities, were purchasers of Pirsh fire apparatus. This Peter Pirsch & Sons Open Cab Pumper lettered for the WFD was delivered on March 7, 1949 with serial number 1830.
