In the 1977 film The Spy Who Loved Me, MI6 agent James Bond (Roger Moore) is supplied with a modified Lotus Esprit. Bond is first chased by a motorcycle, then a car then a helicopter before driving the Lotus into the water and converting it into a submarine. The armed Lotus has wheel arches that turn into fins, rear propellers, a periscope on the roof that enables Bond to navigate underwater and weapons including a missile launcher, mines and torpedoes, which he uses to defeat his pursuers in an underwater battle.
