The Green Hornet is a television series that aired on ABC during the 1966-67 season. It followed the adventures of playboy-media mogul Britt Reid, owner and publisher of the Daily Sentinel. As the Green Hornet, Britt secretly fights crime with the help of his martial-artist partner Kato, Britt's valet, and his car the Black Beauty. The series starred Van Williams as the Green Hornet / Britt Reid and Bruce Lee as Kato. The character originated as the star of a 1930s-1950s radio series and had previously been adapted to movie serials and comic books.
One of the signature elements of the series was the sleek and powerful Black Beauty, a heavily modified sedan which bristled with high tech weapons and gadgetry. The Black Beauty was a 1966 Chrysler Imperial sedan, customized by Dean Jeffries at a cost of $50,000. Two cars were built for the show and both still exist today.
